Pastoral Services

Hospital Catholic and Protestant chaplains are available at any time, 24 hours a day. They are in the hospital on weekdays, and on-call nights and weekends. Monday - Thursday, 8:00 AM - 1:30 PM, just call extension 2951. At other times, dial 0 for the switchboard operator who will contact a chaplain for you.

Catholic Mass is at 4:00 PM Friday and Sunday noon in the hospital chapel, which is located on the first floor of the Maine General Building.  Catholic Mass on holy days takes place at noon. There is also a Prayer and Meditation Room available for patients and families on the first floor of the EAST Tower. There may be occasional liturgies and services in that space, as announced.

From mid-September to mid-April, brief interfaith services are held Monday and Thursday at noon in the chapel. In June, July and early August, this service is at noon, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.

You might ask for a chaplain:

  • If you would like communion, prayer, or the Sacrament of the Sick
  • To request a bible or spiritual reading material
  • For help connecting with your religious community
  • If you feel anxious or upset about what is happening
  • To request support for a friend or family member

Women’s Boutique

There is a boutique carrying maternity, breastfeeding, and postpartum supplies located on the first floor of the East Tower.  This boutique carries many gifts for new mothers and babies as well as specialty items that are hard to find.  The boutique carries a full line of nursing supplies such as nursing bras, breast pump supplies, breastfeeding pillows, books, and more.

Ronald McDonald House

The Ronald McDonald Family Room, housed in the Maine Medical Center East Tower, extends the comfort of the Ronald McDonald House to the hospital environment. It is available for use by any family with a child up to twenty-one years of age who is receiving medical treatment at Maine Medical Center.  The Family Room is a comfortable place to relax, grab a snack, contact family and friends and access internet information.  Because the Family Room allows families to be close to their loved-ones, they can take precious moments to recharge and to focus all of their energies on the health and well-being of their child.

Newborn Photographs

A photographer will visit you after the baby’s birth.   You can arrange to purchase packages of photographs of your new baby.

Online Nursery

With your permission, we will post your baby’s photograph, first name, date of birth and parents’ first names.  Friends and family may access the photograph by going to the home page of Maine Medical Center and select Online Nursery from the left navigation.

Learning Resource Center

Located on the first floor of the East Tower next to the boutique you will find a wonderful source of information with resources for you and your family —  a MaineHealth Learning Resource Center!  Staffed by certified Health Educators who can help you find credible and reliable health information, the center has a lending library of books and DVD’s on women’s, infant and children’s health topics as well as computers with internet access so you can search for additional health information. We want to help you through your childbirth journey or medical experience so no question goes unanswered and your experience is a best as it can be.
